Spotify releases iPad app

After months of demands from users, Spotify has finally taken the wraps off an iPad app for the popular music streaming service. The app, which will only be available for premium subscribers – Spotify also offers a free with adverts service for desktop users – is free to download. For more info on the Spotify subscription options, visit our guide to Spotify.

The new app supports AirPlay, Apple’s wireless streaming system. This means you can stream music from the app to AirPlay compatible devices, such as the Apple TV and many MP3 speaker docks.

What is Spotify?

Spotify is a music streaming service that’s available on multiple devices, including PCs, Macs, iOS devices (iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad) and Android phones and tablets. It lets users stream music from its catalogue. PC and Mac users can use it for free with adverts, but a premium subscription is required to use mobile and tablet apps where it’s possible to download music to be listened to when not connected to the internet.

The advantage of Spotify and similar services, such as Deezer, is you don’t have to buy music, instead listening to anything you want from the catalogue. One disadvantage is songs can sometimes be removed due to changes in usage rights of songs and albums.
