New iPad cheap – for £360

The RRP of the new iPad is £399. You might think you just have to stump up. You don’t!
Getting a new iPad cheap is no mean feat. Apple is famous for many things – generosity in price isn’t one of them. Products are priced high and retailers are kept under close watch to guard against any price reductions. But we’ve found a way for you to get hold of a new iPad for just £360.
Update – read our full iPad review
How to buy a cheap iPad
Here’s the deal; you pay £360 for a Comet reloadable card that’s worth £400 and then use it to buy the iPad.
To buy the card, head over to P&MM benefits, a consumer lifestyle discount website, where you can buy Comet reloadable card at a 10% discount. That means you buy a £400 card but are only charged £360.
There is also a £4.50 credit card fee, but debit cards can be used free and there is no service charge. You could alternatively plump for the same offer with the card code being delivered to your phone by SMS so you can head to the shop straight away.
Note: we can’t link you directly to the page with the deal so you’ll need to search for Comet on the P&MM benefits site. Remember, before you buy the voucher, be sure to check with your local Comet store that it has the iPad in stock.
(Update: This deal has now closed)
New iPad on test
We missed out on this hot deal because we bought an iPad as soon as it was released. We’ve currently got the tablet in our lab, putting it through its paces and we already have some results on the iPad overheating, with full results due this week.
Of course the iPad isn’t the only game in town. We’ve tested 38 tablets and recommended five Best Buys and one Don’t Buy.

Typical Which – a half-cock story about getting £40 off the new ipad. Comet are only selling online and the reloadable card doesn’t work online only in-store. Just check the Comet website to easily see Ipad 3 16gb only available online. Why put in a story that is badly-researched and wastes peoples’ time?

Hi Peter,
Thanks for your comment.
The way to get the deal was to shop online, reserve the iPad and then pay in store. This was possible and we have heard from a number of people who has successfully bought a new iPad using this voucher code.
The deal has now, unfortunately, closed.
Thanks,
Rory

I was interested to read this WHICH comment “Products are priced high and retailers are kept under close watch to guard against any price reductions” as I too have noticed that you cant get a discount on an i-pad every retailer sells them for the same price. This is against the law isnt it? I thought it was illegal for manufacturers to tell retailers what price they should sell their items for. I believe this is particularly so in the Consumer Electronics business as years ago manufacturers were told that retailers could sell a product for whatever price they wanted the caviat being that they couldn’t sell it for a loss. Be interested to know if this is still the case or the law been changed.

Given that “which” pretends to be a consumer watch-dog, you give some thought to taking down “advice” telling people to buy third party gift cards supposedly redeemable against a company that’s gone out of business.
(PS, does anyone think Comet didn’t pay for this?)
