Samsung ES9000 – a 75-inch LED TV [Video]

Samsung ES9000 TV – what is it?
The ES9000 is a 75-inch LED TV that uses an edge-lit display, so despite its huge screen size it is surprisingly slim. That, combined with a narrow 7.9mm bezel and rose blush tint finish, means this monster is an attractive one.
As we’ve seen with the flagship Series 8 line-up, which includes huge 65-inch and 55-inch models, TVs are getting bigger. Big screens are becoming more affordable and therefore more popular, with more of us buying them.

Under the hood
Samsung’s 75-inch Series 9 TV is very similar to Samsung’s Series 8 TV range in terms of specification, including the image, active 3D and Smart technology. Compatible and bundled accessories, like the remote control, are also the same and it comes with four pairs of rechargeable 3D glasses.
So apart from size, what are the other key features that set this massive TV apart from other Samsung models?
Image processing
The ES9000 features Samsung’s Micro Dimming Ultimate technology – otherwise found only on Series 8 TVs like the popular UE55ES8000 which we looked at earlier this year – that’s twice the dimming of standard ‘Micro Dimming’ models like the ES6800 and ES6300 Series 6 TVs, and it also has a higher refresh rate.
Areas of the screen can be dimmed depending on the brightness of the on-screen image and can be switched off when not in use. This isn’t the same as local dimming found on direct-lit full-array LED screens, but it is designed to save energy and enhance picture quality by helping to produce deeper blacks and more natural colours.
Bigger sound
The sound has been upgraded with two 15-watt speakers, as opposed to the 10-watt speakers of other high-end Samsung TV sets.
Exclusive Smart TV content
We’ve previously covered the smart TV functions of Samsung TVs, but it’s worth mentioning that Samsung’s Smart Hub offers a wealth of different content from catch-up TV apps, video content including IMAX 3D videos, and exclusive Samsung smart services and games.
Here, you’ll find the Angry Birds game – currently exclusive to Samsung. We had a go ourselves – it’s a lot of fun and the large screen lends itself well to getting a group together to have a go at throwing the popular feathered creatures using the TV’s built-in camera and motion controls.
Another Samsung exclusive for the moment is the ITV Player app, which joins the newest BBC iPlayer and other catch-up TV apps from the main TV channel broadcasters. You’ll also be able to get these on the latest Samsung Smart TVs, including the ES8000, via a software update from the Smart Hub.
Samsung Evolution kit
Longevity is a consideration when investing in the latest technology. Samsung have addressed this by offering an evolution kit so that owners have the option of upgrading the TV to use its latest technology so it isn’t quickly outdated as new models are released.
The kit will include upgrades to three key areas:
- Main processor inside the TV, which controls the 2D & 3D picture and sound quality
- On-screen menu, such as the layout and menus.
- Smart Hub, such as the on-screen menu and apps.
When can I buy it?
The Samsung ES9000 launches at the start of September, and we expect it to cost around £8,000.

I agree, mani. I can vouch that it is a stunning TV, from the tinted slim bezel to the screen. Despite this, it won’t be going on my Christmas list!
Have you seen it ‘in the flesh’ (as it were)?
