LG is cutting its greenhouse gas emissions by using ‘eco-magnesium’ in future phones.
According to LG, the new magnesium-alloy will reduce greenhouse gas emissions around 24,000 times during the die casting process, and will cut CO2 emissions by 4KG for every handset made.
The move will potentially see LG improve its standing in Greenpeace’s monthly assessment of electronics companies, which currently ranks mobile phone manufacturer Nokia as having the most environment-friendly policies out of all the major consumer electronics manufacturers.
Changing the alloy is expected to take around a year and LG claim the switch will be completed by 2012.
