O2 network down: service problems cut off thousands

O2 has suffered a major collapse of its network leaving hundreds of thousands of users unable to call, text or use the internet on their mobile phones.
The problems started yesterday at 1.30pm and have affected a growing number of consumers overnight. O2 claims that the 2G network is now back up and running and the 3G service is being restored.
