Orange has teamed up with Barclaycard to become the first network operator to offer a contactless payment system using a mobile phone.

The service, called Quick Tap, is based on near-field communications technology (NFC) and allows shoppers to make purchases at over 50,000 stores and cafes across the UK including Pret A Manger, McDonalds, Wilkinson, Subway and EAT.

Shops will accept payments of up to £15 using a Quick Tap-enabled version of the Samsung Tocco Lite, the Samsung Tocco Quick Tap.

The system is designed to make it quicker and easier to pay for small items and will also mean that you won’t have to carry around loads of change.
