Apple iPhone 4S outed by iTunes beta and Vodafone Germany

A product code that seems to suggest we will see an iPhone 4S has been found in the latest iTunes beta to come from Apple.

[We've since seen the launch of the Apple 4S, but no iPhone 5, but if you want to look at how the news unfolded just continue reading.]

The code, discovered by 9to5 Mac, has entries for both a black and white version of the 4S but no mention of an iPhone 5, suggesting that we may only see one device with only incremental improvements on the iPhone 4.

The code shows that the the same image will be used as that of the CDMA version of the iPhone 4, suggesting that the design will be the same – or it could just be a temporary place holder image.

This latest rumour could mean that we won’t see a phone packed with new features such as a bigger screen, but instead just a slightly updated version – much to our and everyone else’s disappointment.

We hope that this isn’t the case, but either way we won’t have to wait too long to find out with the event tomorrow. Watch the iPhone 5 (or 4S) event live with Which? and catch up on all the latest iPhone 5 rumours.

[Update]

Vodafone Germany has also slipped up and revealed not only that the new device will be called the iPhone 4S, but that it will come in 16, 32 and 64GB versions.

On a page selling iPhone 4 bumpers, the compatibility list now includes all three versions of the iPhone 4S in both black and white.
