Gingerbread for Desire and Desire HD confirmed

HTC has confirmed that it will bring Android’s Gingerbread operating system update to the Desire, Desire Z, Desire HD and Incredible S this summer.
There had been rumours floating around that Gingerbread would be coming to the Desire and Desire HD since Mobile World Congress, but blog Engadget has now gotten the official confirmation from HTC.
The Taiwanese manufacturer says it will have the update ready for June, but it will have to go through the network operator’s own approval process, which can often take months.
Still, it’s great news that the update is actually coming for these handsets, especially the original Desire, which has already undergone a major update from Éclair to Froyo.
Hopefully other Android smartphone manufacturers – we’re looking at you Sony Ericsson and Samsung – will follow HTC’s lead and reward customers by getting its updates out to older devices.
