LG promises Android updates for all Optimus phones

LG has promised to update the Android software in every phone in its Optimus range at least once.
Speaking in Barcelona, LG’s global director of communications, Kenneth Hong, made the pledge that all the smartphones it releases in 2011 and beyond will all get a minimum bump of one Android version.
‘LG is committed to providing a clear upgrade path for owners of its Optimus smartphones. Just as we’ve confirmed an upgrade to Gingerbread for Optimus One, our expectation is to be able to offer at minimum a one-level upgrade for all Optimus smartphones introduced by LG in 2011 and beyond.’
It’s great news, although operators will still hold the cards about when these updates get rolled out – but hopefully it will put more pressure on them to share the update love.
A commitment to only one update is perhaps a little disappointing, but LG did say one update was the minimum.
LG also didn’t mention anything about the speed with which it would provide these updates, but this -along with HTC’s recent update announcement - is all a step in the right direction for Android fans.
