Nokia Lumia 800 disappoints in our lab tests

The results are in and it’s not good news for Nokia as its first Windows Phone smartphone gets disappointing scores.
The main trouble we found with the Lumia 800 was its battery life. While Nokia has acknowledged the problem, when we tried the diagnostic tool it suggests, we found that our model was supposedly unaffected by the bug – yet we still only managed to get an hour and a half of web browsing at medium 3G reception levels in multiple tests.
We also only managed to get 3.5 hours of talktime on medium 3G signal – substantially lower than Nokia’s 9.5 hour estimate.
The camera was not of the standard we have come to expect of Nokia either, and while it wasn’t awful, it was fairly average with a lack of sharpness and some colour balance issues.
It’s not all bad news though, our testers were impressed with the music player and the quality of the bundled headphones which provided a nicely balanced sound.
We’re hoping that a promised software update in January will sort out the battery issues – despite our device being seemingly unaffected according to the diagnostic tool – and we will retest the phone once this has been released.

I’ve heard the camera issue is due to it being set OOTB to macro mode. Try changeling the camera settings.
