The Apple iPhone 5 – Which? members have their say
The new iPhone is Apple’s latest smartphone and is not only thinner and lighter than the last model, but also introduces a new screen size, the latest operating system and a load of improvements over the 4S. We’ve put the iPhone 5 to the test in our labs and you can find out how well it did in our Apple iPhone 5 review, but if you’re interested in what iPhone 5 users think of the phone read on.
The customer views page in each review lets Which? members share their thoughts and experiences – the things they love, hate and wish they’d known before they’d parted with their cash. One user was very impressed with their new phone
Loved it so far. It is fast and responsive, the camera is incredibly quick and the screen is amazing. Sound quality is good, as is voice/call quality. It seems to get much better signal than my older 3GS (on same network) and feels faster when browsing.
Although it wasn’t all good news…
The only two downsides are the anodized finish which seems to mark if you so much as look at it, and the maps. The turn by turn navigation is great and works amazingly but the data is terrible. It very rarely can find a searched for locations like google maps can, and has a lot of very out of date data. It doesn’t display motorway junction numbers for example. Apple will improve it, and google have a maps app on the way though.
Problems with the new Apple Maps has caused quite a bit of anger amongst iPhone users but there are other options out there. Check out our round-up of the best Apple Maps alternatives.
One phone addict compares the iPhone 5 with their Samsung Galaxy S3
I have both the S3 and this. If big is better, you’ll prefer the Samsung; if quality, ease of use and build quality, it is the iPhone. Maybe Apple should make a bigger screened one for those of us with larger hands and bigger pockets/capacious handbags. S3 and iPhone 5 are both fantastic, but the understated design and ergonomics of the iPhone shades it for me.
Other users have been disappointed with the smartphone, either because it didn’t offer enough different from the previous models or because the new shape didn’t improve things for them.
This iPhone fan was not impressed
Having previously owned I-phones 3 & 4, the 5 is a real disappointment to me. Apart from being longer and thinner it really is not a great deal different from the 4. Why do Apple persist on using glass screens which can easily break? The battery life is also very disappointing.
Another user wasn’t a big fan of the new shape
Very strange form factor, long and thin. certainly doesn’t make looking at web pages, reading emails, etc. any easier.
