Over 50,000 apps are now available to download on the Windows Phone Marketplace just 14 months after the operating system launched.

While it is still hundreds of thousands of apps behind Android and iOS, Windows Phone is growing fast in terms of apps and has reached the 50,000 mark faster than Android did when it was released.

Windows Phone Marketplace apps

Android took 19 months to reach 50,000 apps while iOS did it in 12 months

The stats, from All About Windows Phone, also show the number of apps being submitted to the app store accelerating with more than 17,000 submitted in the last 90 days.

It is good news for Windows Phone as to present itself as a viable alternative to Android and iOS it needs a good volume of apps behind it.
