Photokina 2012 – what we expect to see

What is Photokina 2012?

Photokina is a photography show held every two years in Cologne, Germany. The show sees many of the big camera brands show off their latest products and this year we expect to see loads of new products in every category of camera.

We’ll be covering the show live from Monday, but for a sneak peak at some of the stuff we are expecting read on.

Canon at Photokina 2012

Canon has already shown off its first compact system camera the EOS M and we’re hoping to get our hands on it for the first time. There’s also rumours of an update to the 7D and 60D models – and even some whispers that these models may be combined in some way.

Will we see anything to rival Canon’s first CSC

Nikon at Photokina 2012

This week we saw the launch of its new small and light – and slightly more affordable – full frame DSLR the Nikon D600but there’s a few other Nikon cameras we’re hoping to catch up with at the show.

It’s update to the Nikon 1 – the Nikon 1 J2 – and the Android powered Coolpix S800c should be on display and P7700 bridge camera is also likely to make an appearance.

Panasonic at Photokina 2012

Ahead of the show some details of the Panasonic Lumix GH3 leaked out, suggesting the new compact system camera will come with a 16Mp sensor offering a wide dynamic range. We’re not sure the leaks are reliable, but they also claim it will be able to record video in broadcast quality and has the fastest autofocus of any interchangeable system camera.

Sony at Photokina 2012

Sony used IFA as an excuse to show off the Sony NEX-5R and we’re expecting to get a look at the NEX-6 at Photokina.

We’ll also be getting a look at the Sony a99 SLT camera, the successor to the a900, with a 24Mp sensor and Dual AF System.

Pentax at Photokina 2012

Pentax has already had a busy September announcing a the K5 II, the K5 IIs and the Q10. We’ll be aiming to get our hands on these, as well as the X-5 bridge camera that appeared back in August.
